Our workforce is over 90,000 strong.
Southern Appalachia is home to some of the hardest working men and women you’ll find anywhere in the world. Appalachian people are known for their strong work ethic and take great pride in every job they do. It’s one of the reasons why so many companies have operations here.

Our industrial history dates back to the mid 1700’s, when iron forges were first built in the region. And we’ve been growing ever since.

Today, the Southern Appalachian workforce is skilled in a variety of high-tech fields including tooling, machinery, automotive parts, medical supplies, wood, plastic, and steel parts, sheet glass, and ordinance. These hardworking people are also eager to learn new skills. Every year, thousands take advantage of training programs at one of eight local technology centers in an effort to enhance their job skills.

Because our people want to work, absenteeism is low. Less than 9% of the workforce is unionized. Tennessee is a right-to-work state.
